Skateboards, Movies, and Homos?

March 6, 2008

I HATE Gus Van Sant. Let me get that out of the way first. Now sure he has been involved with many films I liked, such as Good Will Hunting. But My Private Idaho and Elephant are probably two of my least favorite movies of all time. Well he is directing the Harvey Milk biopic (wondering who is Harvey Milk?).  So I looked up the film because there is a lot of buzz about which celebrities are in it.  Currently Sean Penn, Emile Hirsch, and James Franco are attached/filming.  But that is not the point of this post.  It turns out there is a Gus Van Sant movie coming out soon.  Paranoid Park.  Heres the plot line: A teenage skateboarder’s life begins to fray after he is involved in the accidental death of a security guard.  I watched the trailer and I want to see it.

Definitely, Maybe a Pedophile

February 23, 2008

This is an unaired Soup skit about Definitely, Maybe.  The movie is adorable, sweet, funny, and a great chick flick.  I rushed out to see it on Valentines day.  But that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a spoof.  Particularlly a wildly inappropriate one.   Check it out!

Meet The Browns

February 10, 2008

I never thought I would say this, but there is a Tyler Perry movie I am looking forward to.  “Meet the Browns” looks like solid family movie, and Angela Bassett is always an amazing actress.

Speed Racer

February 4, 2008

At work I caught the Speed Racer trailer this weekend.  It looks awesome, its shot in HD entirely green screened and Emile Hirsch is Speed Racer.  Its shot to look anime-ish.  I think it will be a fun movie, although I am not a big Speed Racer fan so I don’t care about fidelity.

Who Will Snoop Dogg Vote For?

February 2, 2008

Political activist / Media correspondent Snoop Dogg, oh wait, I mean Blunt Smoker/Rapper/#1 Pimp Snoop Dogg is torn up about who to vote for. Or at least thats the implication between CNN political ticker headline Snoop Dogg torn between Obama, Clinton. Now I have no problem with this article, I mean people are always curious what candidates celebrities support.  And with the rockstar like craze Obama has been using to help people look past his weak credentials and even weaker plans, it is refreshing to see a celebrity not just jump on the wagon.  Many celebrities with little to no political knowledge have jumped behind Obama helping to raise money and awareness.   Some how there is this implication if you don’t support Obama over Clinton you are some racist who hates change.

What I thought was funny is that the article is the top story on the CNN ticker, which is a blog I frequent several times a day.  If I were Snoop I would write a rap about the two candidates and switch between the verses who I was supporting.  Add in his characteristically smooth hooks and he now has new hit that every station will jump to play throughout the primary season.

Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity (G.I.J.O.E.)

January 29, 2008

How badass is the fact that they are making a G.I. J.O.E. Movie? The Internet gossip is all abuzz with who is in it and who isn’t. The imdb page. Jason Gordon Levitt, Sienna Miller, and Marlon Wayons are supposedly in it. I also read on another site that Channing Tatum has been cast as Duke. Well whoever, it should be cool.  I used to play with the action figures  for hours imagining the weirdest story-lines.  (Of course all stories revolved around the fact they could twist around the center)

Oprah Takes Over

January 17, 2008

Oprah is taking over the world. Or at least having a large influence on it. With millions of viewers and an ever growing audience, Oprah is talking to whoever will listen. And many are listening. Hell I don’t even watch her show, but I listen to what books I should read. But this time she is endorsing more than a book or gadget. She is endorsing Barack Obama for president. Many believe it is about seeing a black president or jumping on the rockstar like following for Obama.

But I know the truth, it is just one stop on her way to world domination. It is important to have friends in powerful places. The President of the United States is a pretty powerful position. Some have said my theories on Oprah are a little far fetched. But I’ve always know she was a conquerer. From the news, to the talk show, to the made for tv movies, to book club, to the Broadway shows, to the magazine, to the South African school and now to endorsing a presidential candidate.

But now she has gone to far!! She is getting her own tv channel. The Oprah Winfrey Network, or OWN, will premier in 2009.  So you wonder why is this so terrible?  No one is forcing me to watch it.  The problem is the channel will be replacing Discovery Health Channel.  I love the Discovery Health Channel.  “Incredible Medical” is the most compelling show on television, I have been late to work in order to see the final diagnosis.  Plus shows like “Baby Baby”, “Adoption stories”, and “Babies: Special Delivery” are the only shows on television that can make me cry.

How does one become a “Dog Person”?

January 17, 2008

I’m a cat person.  I have a cat, I think cats are cute, and most importantly I don’t like dogs. I think they smell, the homes of their owners often smell, they are dumb, and they require too much time and effort to be worth having. (Really I am just scared of them, and don’t understand why they aren’t all box trained like cats).

Although some cat people become extreme and obsessive, I’ve generally noticed that it is more often dog owners. You know the type, people with dogs on their sweatshirt, dog statues and decorations, dogs on all their holiday cards, and a own a dog they treat like a favorite child. My question is how does a person become a “dog person”? Is it overnight? Are they born that way? Is is nature or nurture?

I recently have come across a type of dog that I think is irresistibly cute, mini goldendoodles and labradoodles. All of a sudden I find myself actually thinking about getting a dog. Is this the first step? Am I going to get paw bumper stickers? Will my next holiday card have two puppies sleeping adorably?

I can’t help it, I may be turning.

Is the G for Gay?

January 11, 2008

Meet Anthony G. A youtube sensation and popular talk show guest. The little boy has an amazing voice. He certainly has a “stage presence” as well.  He has appeared on the morning show, the ellen show, and many more.

I couldn’t embed the video of Anthony G that you must watch.

Check out his wonderful rendition of “Think” by Aretha Franklin.

I know I am probably going to hell for calling this 8 year old gay, but whatever.
