First the Gays, now the Jews?

Ann Coulter, the Anti-Christ

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

When CNBC host Donny Deutsch responded, “It would be better if we were all Christian?” Coulter said “Yeah.”

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, “We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?”

“Yeah,” Coulter responded, adding “Well, it’s a lot easier. It’s kind of a fast track.”

“You can’t possibly believe that,” Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn’t want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, “No, we think — we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say.”

“Wow, you didn’t really say that, did you,” Deutsch said. Deutsch said he was personally offended. Deutsch continued to call Coulter’s comments anti-semetic.

“No. I’m sorry. It is not intended to be,” she said. “I don’t think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe — this is just a statement of what the New Testament is — is that that’s why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don’t believe our testament.”

Sometimes being controversial just to be controversial blows up in your face. Earlier this year she drew fierce criticism from both sides of the aisle after calling Edwards a faggot. Now she is in hot water over these anti-semetic remarks. But the funny thing is I don’t believe she has any problems with gays or with Jews, she is just really really needy.

I’m what I’d like to call a rough around the edges Christian, I believe somethings and I don’t believe others.  I have my balance between faith and doubt.  I don’t ascribe to all of the church’s rules, it would be hard to without hating myself.  Some would say that makes me a supermarket Christian (I pick and choose what to buy), but I think it makes me realistic.  Whether God or evolution, I had no say in being gay and as such I don’t expect to be punished for it.  And while I am in no way a good representative of Christians in general, I do think I can speak for a lot of Christians and say I don’t view Christians as “Perfected Jews”.  I don’t view any people as perfected anythings.

Ann Coulter you are Tool Bag of the Day (she gets this title several times a year in my opinion)

Peter Pace raging homo or regular ole bigot?

September 28, 2007

Yeah, yeah I know there is no reason to believe Peter Pace is a homosexual, but that isn’t stopping me from thinking it. For the second time, he has felt it necessary to verbal degrade the brave men and women who service our country, by implying their sexual identify affects them as soldiers.

March 12: “I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that [the U.S. military] should not condone immoral acts…I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is okay to be immoral in any way…As an individual, I would not want [acceptance of gay behavior] to be our policy.” He went on to say he did support the official “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

March 17: “In expressing my support for the current policy, I also offered some personal opinions about moral conduct. I should have focused more on my support of the policy and less on my personal moral views.”

September 26: “We should respect those who want to serve the nation but not through the law of the land, condone activity that, in my upbringing, is counter to God’s law.”

“I would be very willing and able and supportive” to changes to the policy “to continue to allow the homosexual community to contribute to the nation without condoning what I believe to be activity — whether it to be heterosexual or homosexual — that in my upbringing is not right”

Why he feels he is in the position to make these judgments about soldier’s private life, or why he feels compelled to share his personal judgments in a public forum is beyond me. Hopefully his replacement will be a little more mindful of separate of church and state.

Notes on a Scandal

September 25, 2007

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) — A former teacher was charged with having sex with a teenage boy, the third teacher in the same county accused of such crimes in the past year and a half, authorities said Monday. Karen Robbins is the third teacher in the area to be charged with having sex with a teenager. Karen Robbins, 49, was arrested over the weekend and charged with three counts each of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and committing a lewd act on a child. The sex occurred with a 15-year-old in her car and twice at her home between September and November 2005, according to arrest warrants. Earlier this month, Allena Ward, also a former Bell Street Middle teacher, pleaded guilty to having sex with five teenage boys, some of them students where she taught. Wendie Ann Schweikert, a former elementary school teacher in Laurens County, was sentenced in June to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to having sex with an 11-year-old student. Ward has not yet been sentenced.

I think that this is vile, and adults that have inappropriate relationships with children should be punished. I think it is especially revolting when it an adult in a position of power to a child, like a teacher. But in the case of a 15 year old boy, you gotta wonder just how scarred he was. Most 15 year old boys would be all about a woman wanting to have sex with them, anywhere. She should have known better though. I had a couple teachers along the way, who I wouldn’t not have minded at all stepping a little out of line.

When Bull-Dykes attack

September 20, 2007

On September 18, the website of right-wing radio host Michael Savage linked to an article reporting on a University of Florida student who was shocked with a Taser and removed by several campus police officers — at least one of whom was female — from a September 17 forum featuring Sen. John Kerry (D-MA). Savage linked to the article with the headline: “BULL-DYKE FASCIST TASERS STUDENT WHO ASKS KERRY TOO MANY QUESTIONS.” The actual article, which was titled “Student Shot by Taser Gun” and appeared on the website of a Baltimore TV station, did not state that a female officer was the one who tasered the student and did not mention any details about the officers who arrested him.

Savage is insane. He brings homophobia to a new level. At least in this situation it could be perceived as a tasteless joke. In the past he has blamed murder victims for their own murders on account of their sexual orientation or gender identity. He also blamed the Columbine shootings on sexual reassignment surgery. I know, right. I encourage you to read about the tasering incident. It is an interesting example of the delicate balance between security and civil liberties. The student was staging a civil protest in the form of out of turn questioning, not exactly dangerous. But on the other hand, when a police officer tells you something, you listen. Note: Kerry just stood there and following the incident he release an incredibly bland response. Taser are an amazing technology though. Thank God for tasers, because imagine if each time you read about an unconstitutional tasering by the police the article said an unconstitutional shooting.

Maybe its just me, but if a cop told me to cluck like a chicken I would.

People are crazy

September 12, 2007

People are just crazy. I was reading the news this morning and came across the following story on the CNN website.

Six West Virginians charged with kidnapping, torturing and sexually assaulting a woman for at least a week may also face hate crime charges, Logan County Sheriff’s officials said Tuesday. The victim, 20-year-old Megan Williams, is black; those charged are white. The suspects include a mother and son, a mother and daughter, and two men.

According to criminal complaints filed in the county, Williams was sexually assaulted, stabbed in the left leg, choked and beaten. She also allegedly was forced to eat rat and dog feces, lick up blood and drink from the toilet. The criminal complaints say the suspects threatened to kill the victim if she left the house where she was being held.

Williams was discovered Saturday after sheriff’s deputies received an anonymous tip that a woman was being held against her will at a home in Big Creek, West Virginia. As the deputies spoke with a woman on the front porch, “a female inside the residence limped toward the door with her arms held out, saying ‘Help me,’ ” according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.

In custody are Frankie Brewster, 49; her son Bobby, 24, both of Pecks Mill, West Virginia; Danny J. Combs, 20, of Harts, West Virginia; and George A. Messer, 27, Karen Burton, 46, and her daughter, Alisha Burton, 23, all of Chapmanville, West Virginia.

What kind of crazies kidnap and torture someone for more than a week? And how to mother/child teams get involved. Oh, West Virginia.

Britney Spears at the VMAs

September 10, 2007

Lets talk about an entertainment tragedy. No not Pavarotti’s death, not Vanessa Hudgens leaked nude photos, not Madeleine L’Engle’s death, and certainly not the Kayne West/50 cent feud. I’m talking about the uber-hyped Britney Spears performance at the VMAs. It was, as some media analysts predicted, a disaster. Perez Hilton released a scathing open letter to the songstress which is available on his website.

Most sites are drumming it up to a lack of confidence mixed with a lack of rehearsal. You know your performance is awful, when CNN, news source for the geriatric population, writes the following:

“Out-of-synch lip-synching. Lethargic movements that seemed choreographed by a dance instructor for a nursing home. The paunch in place of Spears’ once-taut belly. At times she just stopped singing altogether, as if even she knew nothing could save her performance. ”

I also have a message for Britney.  Don’t stage a comeback if you can’t even muster 4 minutes of excitement about your own performance.  For the terrible performance, wicked extensions, and too small/tight outfit, I have designated you the TOOL OF THE DAY.

I’ve attached the video, but who knows if YouTube will pull it. More on my favorite train wreck later.

On another note, the VMAs were not as awful/boring as normal. There was even a fist fight between Tommy Lee and Kid Rock over Pamela Anderson. I’m a Tommy girl, so I hope he kicked Kid Rock’s ass.

Tool Bag of the Day

September 4, 2007

larry-craig.jpg When a gay person engages in behavior that is harmful to themselves, their families, or society, while perpetuating common gay stereotypes, it is disheartening and frustrating. So when Senator Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was arrested for soliciting a police officer in a public restroom, I rolled my eyes and thought here we go again. But I could understand why he was hiding his sexuality. To live in a state and work in a party where people don’t support you, it is part of the survival instinct to hide. Initially I felt almost bad for a man caught in his terrible contretemps. But there are two things that quickly cut away any sympathy or understand that I could muster for Mr. Craig. First the man has a wife and three children (adopted) that who now have to go through this public humiliation and private hardship. Second, in an attempt to cover himself from further scrutiny he announced that he is not gay, after which he quickly resigned with his tail between his legs. Not gay? That is an insult to gay people, and to the intelligence of Americans everywhere. Larry Craig you are the tool bag of the day.
